An unclear opening produces an unclear meeting

If a meeting opens with “so, shall we get started,” the room has no sense of what success looks like by the end. People stay passive because no one has told them what is actually being decided.

Name the outcome, not just the topic

“Thanks for joining, here is what we need to leave with today.” Naming the outcome up front gives everyone a filter for what is worth saying and what is a tangent.

Sequence it out loud

“We have three things to cover, let us start with the most time-sensitive.” Saying the shape of the agenda out loud, not just having it in a doc, keeps the room oriented even for people who did not read the invite closely.
